3-Tone Sunburst on Alder
In 1958, Fender opted to change the look of their sunbursts by adding a red band to the 'burst. When observing the originals today, many appear like the previous 2-tone varieties. This is because the chemical composition of the red band was prone to fading over time, especially when subjected to ultraviolet rays.
We use aniline dyes to provide the red tint to this color band just like the originals. So, in keeping with authenticity, the red band will fade over time.
In comparison to the other 3-tone sunbursts we provide, the '58-'60 version has a softer red tint and a more subtle transition to the yellow center.
